Master Gardeners, June 26

This month the UCCE/LA County Master Gardeners  have started some more summer veggies for your garden

Early Pole Beans, Spanish Musica - productive and early bearing

Bush Beans, Classic Slenderette - gourmet quality beans with tender, sweet and juicy rounded pods. No trellis needed; these grow as a bush!

Tomatillos - sweet-tart fruits on vigorous strong vines

Persian Baby Cucumbers - PERFECT for pickling

Dark Green “Raven” Zucchini

Japanese Cucumbers - also wondrous when pickled

Bath Loofah - compact Vining Gourds. Who needs a scrub brush? Grow your own for natural skincare!!!
There may be a few more surprises. Come by The Green Tent and find out.

Meantime, if you have any empty plastic six packs, please recycle them at the Green Tent so the Master Gardeners can grow more of what you love.

By the way, there are some very discouraging words in the tree world — many are weakened by drought and are subject to nasty beetles that take them down, one way or another. To find out about at least one variety that affects hundreds of different kinds of trees, and what you can do to help, visit www.pshb.org to stay informed. And see this LA Times article for more information: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-drought-dead-trees-20160622-snap-story.html.
